Restore Vaginal Health With Surgery-Free Viveve®

Restore Vaginal Health With Surgery-Free Viveve®

Like the rest of your body, vaginal tissue changes with age. And while these changes can bring a range of uncomfortable effects, such as pain and dryness, you don’t have to attempt to grin and bear them.

At Melissa Grier, MD Women’s Healthcare in Pasadena, California, Dr. Grier, and her team are pleased to offer Viveve® radiofrequency treatment, which can help restore lost strength and vitality in our vaginal tissue without the need for surgery. Read on to learn more about this treatment and the ways it can benefit your vaginal health.

Vaginal atrophy 101

Vaginal atrophy is the technical term for the drying, inflammation, and thinning of the vaginal walls that can happen when your body produces less estrogen. While it can happen earlier, these changes most often follow menopause. In addition to dryness and pain, vaginal atrophy can cause pain during or after sex, resultant dips in sexual desire, and urinary incontinence.

Treatments for vaginal atrophy range from using a vaginal moisturizer or lubricant and taking your time with foreplay before intercourse to hormone replacement therapy (HRT). When lifestyle measures fail to fully help or you wish to avoid HRT, you may be a good candidate for Viveve.

How Viveve works

Viveve is a minimally-invasive treatment that uses radiofrequency energy to stimulate helpful changes in your vaginal tissue. Each session takes about 30 minutes, during which you’ll rest comfortably. Once the treatment starts, Dr. Grier inserts the tip of the Viveve device into your vagina to send radiofrequency waves to the treatment area.

Those waves go deep below the surface to stimulate new collagen production. This is important because collagen is a protein that helps keep tissue supple and vibrant, and levels tend to dip with increasing age and estrogen decline.

Viveve is so gentle that you won’t need any numbing cream or anesthesia beforehand. And afterward, you can get back to your usual daily activities — no downtime required.

What to expect after Viveve treatment

Our patients notice improvements in vaginal dryness and related symptoms after just one Viveve session. Gradually, tissue in the region will grow stronger, thanks to the remodeling of existing collagen and the production of more.

Many people also notice increased natural lubrication during sex, which tends to boost self-confidence and desire for sex. You can also expect greater sensation, less urge or stress incontinence, and reduced symptoms of an overactive bladder.
